Popcorn picks — five things I actually finished
My streaming history is a graveyard of things I started with real enthusiasm and never returned to. So rather than recommending things I think I ought to like, here are the ones I finished.
The one I watched twice
A slow, quiet film about people in a house who mostly talk. Nothing happens, twice. I have thought about it roughly once a week since.
I have stopped apologising for liking films where nothing happens. Something happening is not the same as something being interesting.
The comfort rewatch
There is a category of thing you put on not to watch it but to have it in the room. Mine is a series I have seen enough times to recite. It is not good, exactly. It is load-bearing.
Everyone has one. Almost nobody admits which.
The one that was too much
Beautifully made, extremely well acted, and I have no intention of ever seeing it again. Some films are worth watching once specifically so that you never have to again.
The unexpected one
Recommended by someone whose taste I do not otherwise share, which turns out to be the best source of recommendations. People who like what you like tell you about things you would have found anyway.
The abandoned one, for honesty
Three episodes in and I do not care what happens. I am no longer finishing things out of obligation — a decision that has improved my life considerably.
This is a running series. If you have something you think belongs here, the contact page is open.
